Default A luger I may buy. Would love some guidance

So I just returned from visiting a fellow who is liquidating an estate - some 300 guns, mostly old west and military stuff.

Among the pistols is a 1917 DWM. All of the numbers match that I can see - though he tells me that the grip panels do not match. So, not an all-numbers matching gun.

The thing appears to be in very nice condition. The action is tight. No major pitting, etc. It's obviously been well cared for during its life.

The pictures aren't the best, but it's all I could do on short notice. The guy wants $900 for it.
I'm strongly considering buying the thing, but would love some advice. It's among a big batch of guns he's taking to a gun show tomorrow, so there's at least some chance he'll sell it there.

Tim, based on the photos you have posted, and assuming the internal numbers match, this 1917 DWM looks very nice and is well worth $900.00. You don't mention if the magazine matches also, if it does this gun's a steal. Regards, Norm

The strawed parts look nice. Without doubt, a well taken care of pistol. If I had the extra cash, I'd buy it for $900.00

To me, all metal numbered parts matching is a matching gun...I consider wood grips to be 'outside' the criteria for all-matching...

Me too. I am also not too concerned about firing pins and holdopens

Hmmmmm...I think I would consider wooden grips to be a 'consumable' item; but if I were looking for a Model 1900 Luger, I would want an "all matching 1900" to have matching FP & HO...

( I use that example because I may be shopping for a 1900 before too long)...

Good luck with that. 1900 FP & HO aren't numbered.

TBarker13.....After you get the Luger home, how about posting close-up photos of the markings, serial number, etc...By the way, I like the honest holster wear on the blued high points.

Congradulations on your, "I will take it" decision.

When I go to estate auctions, they usually have worn out .22's, beat to hell shotguns and rusted pistols. Of course, that's in Kansas (farmers) when I'm visiting my parents.

Well, when we use up all our stuff, we lay down and die. Relatives sell what we leave behind.
