Hey Guys....an elderly ladyfriend of my wife...has told me for years.....she had an "Old Luger Pistol with holster" that belonged to her brother that passed away.....and for about 5 years it seems.....she never could "find it".....well about a couple months ago she called me and said she found it......I went over and looked at it....it was a MINT....possibly..Unfired......1941...All Matching BYF...with Holster and extra mag..(cant remember if they matched)....anyway....I told her I would love to buy it from her and how much would she want.??.and was prepared to make her an offer.......However......she didnt know if she wanted to sell it as it belonged to her late departed brother...family keepsake...etc....she teared up.....the whole show.....sigh......so I checked back every now and then with her.....same story.......dont know if I want to part with it..etc.........this morning as my wife and I were on the way to have breakfast with our oldest son and his new girlfriend.....for some reason.....(well seeing as how Im thinking of buying an Interarms Mauser)......I remembered the 1941 BYF the elderly lady had.....so I asked my wife if she still had it.......my wife said...."oh I meant to tell you....I ran into her husband the other day.....someone offered her $900.00 for it and she just went ahead and sold it...........Im glad my wife happened to be driving.....and as Forrest Gump said...."thats all Ive got to say about that"........sigh....DEEP sigh.......Hans Fischer

I think that kind of stuff has happened to most of us regarding someTHING once or twice in our lives. While it does slightly suck, in the end it's just an object......a lump of steel and dead cowhide. Actually, you did get something priceless out of the whole deal.....a neato story to tell around the campfire. In the end, the laughs and memories the story will generate among friends will far outweigh the satisfaction of posessing a mere object. That's the bright side of this event!!!

This is an odd phenomena. It has happened to me several times. You locate an item. You cultivate the owner for a lengthly period of time. You are ready to give them a fair market value for the item. You tell them what they have and why it is important. You plead with them to contact you when they are ready to sell.
They then turn around and sell it to a total stranger for less than you were willing to pay without so much as a phone call!

Go figure!

Mr. Burney, sage advice. Mr. alanint, been there, done that, too many times also. Perhaps temporary amnesia on the sellers part? The smell of fresh hundreds puts them in a trance.

Well I had the opposite luck this weekend, a friend called me and asked if I would like to save some guns from destruction.

A friend of his father had died and he was planning to turn his fathers gun collection in for destruction among which was a 1940 byf matching numbers except mag., but refinished.

I had offered to pay but all he wanted was the fee to de-register them (20 euro).

That is when one needs to communicate to the person the amount that you wold have been willing to pay.

"Ratdogs" remarks are quite interesting..........The lady in question let me very briefly look at the Luger Pistol..........and I mean briefly.....and No.....I am not craving attention....Ive had heart surgery this month and a week later wound up back in the Emergency room......so....."attention" is not something Im looking for...........but Im sure that "ratdog" has spent hours looking over pistols before making an offer........so who am I to argue with an "expert opinion".................
