Default displaying grandads trophy

Finally got around to doing this. I think it turned out good. I am not done with the finishing yet. just 1 coat so far. It is an oil finish and will get several more coats.
the box is made from cherry that he and I sawed up back in the seventies and the top is a scrap of sepele I had lounging around the shop. It aint a Luger but it will house one.....

hope the pics show up.

there are many ways but I simply traced it on paper, glued the paper to wood and cut it out on a scroll saw. Then I lined it with felt [flocking would be better] and glued a piece of felt to the bottom. The cut out is just a drop in held in place by the trim I used to hold the lift off lid. there is a plywood bottom and the top is just a raised panel fit into a groove. You could cut out patterns and route the insert areas. If you go that route you could make templates for the various parts and set the router to different depths. It would be more difficult to do the felt that way though unless you have a flocking setup. Hope this helps.
