Default Spreewerke P-38 - Need help identifying stamp

Went to look at a Luger project gun yesterday, but it was too much of a project so I ended up with a P-38 instead. It's a bit rough around the edges (just like any Spreewerke P-38), but it's in great condition, no import marks and the barrel looks like it has never been fired. Just some holster wear and a few minor scratches, that's it:

I have identified most of the stamps, but this one has me stumped:

Ar first glance, it appears to be "eagle over something" but I can't really see what it says and I'm not even sure it's an eagle. Any ideas will be appreciated!

Default E/88

Hi Ollie, It's just a very poor E/88 stamp that is common on Spreewerk P.38's.. Your's looks to be one of the finer fit and finish examples... Most are a lot more crude .. Nice P.38... best to you, til...lat'r...GT

Ok, thanks for the info! Now when I look closer, I can see that this is a butchered "eagle over 88", and must simply be a matter of poor tooling. I didn't even think about that, as all other "eagle over 88" on this gun are very nice and crisp. I guess this also lends more credibility to the "Cyq-Cvq broken stamp" theory, it's apparent that they didn't pay too much attention to details at the end of the war. "Alright guys, the stamp broke so our code is Cvq from now on".

And yeah, it looks pretty good in the pictures, but a lot of that is in the way I shot the pictures... Digital magic can even make a Spreewerke look good.

Almost looks like a Czech 'lion' stamped over the 'eagle 88'

You might google CZ 46 or Spreewerke P38..and see what pops up.

I signed up at http://www.p38forum.com/ a while back, and the guys there are very helpful and knowledgeable. They confirmed that this is a legit and original cyq in very good condition. I guess I lucked out on this one.

Cool thing about the Spreewerk guns..you can date them to the year and month they were made by the serial number charts posted over at the P38 forums.

I've got a P38 Spreewerk made in March 1945..a B prefix gun Looks a lot like yours only has the cog style hammer.
