Well they say you live and learn. Case in point. the case being, don't shoot a Luger that you will regret breaking. last night at the range, I was shooting my favorite Luger, when I noticed an extra piece of metal on the shooting bench. i was in a hurry to get home so I packed up my luger with the extra part and went home. When I got home, I inspected my Luger and found that I had broken a piece off of the EJECTOR. My stomach sank! Thankfully it wasn't a part that is serial numbered or proofed, and the Luger is a 1939 Dated 42 Code in about 75%(conservatively)condition! And above all it was'nt one of my better ones, albiet my favorite! Hey, after all, they are over 80 years old! My best regards,

Do not shoot original Lugers under any circumstances!!!! If you must shoot them, there are many mixed parts, reblued, chromed dogs out there, and believe me, it will feel the same as shooting an all matching unaltered pistol.

Shhhh, Bill, how can we get those "good" Lugers to have their value go up...
Okay, all of mine are shooters, but it will be hard for me not to want to shoot a pristine one. But if anyone has one they'll entrust to me, I promise I won't shoot her! And yes Bill, I know, deep in my heart that you are absolutely correct. Ed |

Oh, Contrare Fine Sir,
As this forum has taught me, you may not agree with all members of your family but they are still family. We Luger collectors are a strange breed to be sure but when one of us needs something, we all come running to his or her aid, as evidenced by my posting yesterday, regarding the injury sustained by my "Favorite Luger". people came running with words of encouragement and support. No "I told you so's". Just solutions to my problem. A big thanks to Thor and Tom Heller as well as others who, with their help, my Luger will be good as new in about a week! (well maby not that good, afterall it really only has about 75% of it's original finnish) I never said it was the best, just my favorite, because it has afforded me the oppurtunity to shoot it and explore more importantly it's history, without risking financial ruin. I don't shoot any of my guns in mint condition. #1 I can't afford to, #2 I probably wouldn't if I could afford it. This forum is kind of like picking on someone three times your size. You are more likely to if your four brothers are standing behind you. Yes it was a gamble to shoot my Luger, but I knew that if something went wrong, the guys(and gals) here would back me up and help in any way they could! You know what? I was right. Best Regards, Tim Canney |
