I will be the 1st to admit that I know little to nothing about Lugers thus I sought out the Best...

I have a P-08, 1936 S/42 which appears to have matching numbers including its magazine. It also has the P.08 holster complete with its little brush.

I am including numerous pics for your review. Please give me your input and possible value. The gun and holster are in outstanding shape and the bore is great...

I'd include some pictures of the holster, front, back and inside shot.

Does it have a loading tool?

It looks pretty nice; the only drawbacks I see are the wear and loss of blue below the acceptance and proofing on the right and the safety lever.

For pricing many times I check gunbroker and Simpson's, for retail, take off 30-40% and thats what yours is worth, if you find one in the same condition.

Where did this one come from? Just wondering if you have had it for years or?

There is no loading tool (I had research that because I didn't know what you were referring to).

I am aware of GunBroker and Simpson's however I do not yet know what I have so I can compare apples to apples.

I may be taking in this gun on trade or consignment thus it would be new to me but the gentleman I am dealing with inherited it from his recently deceased father. I want to insure that he obtains a fair value thus my inquiry...

I am always reluctant to give a value . It is very difficult to do via pictures. To many variables. That being said my best photo guess luger $1300 (,assuming all numbers match) , holster $250. The market has changed with the economic conditions so these could be high or low. Hopefully others will add there opinions. Welcome to the forum. Bill

The magazine you picture does not match this pistol, as is stated in your original post. That alone brings down the value some.
Someone has freshened the holster's black finish, which also puts off collectors, (see inside edges of tool pouch cover).
Historically, it would be interesting if you printed out what is hand written in ink on the holster's inside flap. It is apparently the original owner's information, perhaps unit, etc. That alone would add interest and possibly value..

Alanint, Thank you for pointing out my error. It should have read excluding the magazine. As far as the writing on the inside goes, I have now viewed it a number of times and find it subjective on some of the letters and/or numbers. As such I have attempted to provide as clear of an image as possible and you guys that know what to look for can assist and deiced what it possibly means...

I think I am seeing his name; O.B. Butler followed by 2nd Lt. above his service number which shows him to be an officer. The rest looks like unit markings of 3 rd Battalion ???? Infantry and the last line is perhaps a town or district and it looks like a date ending in 45

So, I think we didn't answer your question, it is a 1936 (yr) S/42 (code for Mauser) made before the war started in 1939 but under nazi control.
