Hugh, very nice!

Your collection of BBQ guns must have reached quite a number by now?

Default What is a Bar-B-Que Gun?

Back in the early days, the Texas Rangers and other Texas lawmen often had two pistols. One was a plain gun used for everyday work, their "work gun". When they dressed up for a court appearance, or to attend a social gettogether which were often big outdoor bar-b-ques, they put on their "special" gun which was often engraved, or nickel plated, and/or with pearl, stag or other special grips, and wore them. These came to be called "Bar-B-Que Guns". This term was mostly used in the southwest and not widely used until modern times when all fancy handguns are now sometimes called Bar-B-Que, BarBQ or BBQ Guns.
Here are some examples:

I always wondered where that term came from! OK, I'll fire up the pit, all you Hands, purty up!

Among of them, I like this one most. This one matches my taste perfectly.

Not quite as "full dress" as Hugh's guns, but I just finsihed the grips on my favorite hog-leg, so maybe it can be considered a blue jeans and sport coat version.

Beautiful gun, Ron, and nice job on those grips. I have always been partial to Stags, but seems like I have ended up with more Ivory & Pearl than Stag.

Thanks for the explanation, and the photos. I grew up in Arizona, but never heard the term. Guess I never got invited to the right social events.
