Default Gunbroker

I emailed the seller for more pics and asked what the date over the chamber was.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=145147190

He said he didn't have any more pics and that the date was 1934.

I think I know what is going on, how 'bout you guys?

New seller; no feedback; $1800 starting bid...No other pics??? Eight word description...Doesn't even mention the holster or the 2 mags...

1934 chamber date???

Sounds awful steep...I would ask lots of questions and request [firmly] more pics if he wants my bid...

Is there something that makes you think that this is a skunk???

1934's aren't called "1934". Most collectors that I know refer to them as K-dates.

So he's not a collector...I'm not either...

I'm just curious as to what you think is going on...I don't have a clue...If he was asking $1000 less I'd say it was a great deal...but for $1800+???

A K-date in that condition with that low of a starting bid does not look right. K-dates in that condition would go for at least 3-5 times his starting bid.

And like you said, no mention of the holster or magazines.

If the seller could provide more pics, I wouldn't be so suspicious.

There was a K-date Navy just on GB a few days ago. Initial starting bid on that one was around 7800 and then it was sold for buy it now for 3800. This seller was also a new seller to GB.

Non rated seller also and can't supply any more pics? Raises red flags for me.

I didn't know that. I've noticed threads here about K-dates and G-dates but didn't have a clue what they were (and still don't)...

K? One possibility could be that he inherited from someone, so for him the thing came free and low selling price is not impossible. Of course it contains lots of risk -- NR, lousy pix, short text, AS IS no return, etc. If you live in PA or nearby, the best way is making an appointment and take a look in hand. Otherwise, bypass it.

Did he say how much is his reserve?

Hi Guys, if you look in "Lugers at Random" by Kenyon, he classifies all Military Lugers as "Model" 1934 because the first ones were built in 1934 (K-Date). It's a very poor classification, but if this is the only reference you have...

Does anyone have the Serial number, based on general appearances, it might be one of my restores. No wear on the sideplate high section or muzzle sides that I can see in the far away pics. I can check my list, I might even have more pictures. Thor

Default Re: "K" and "G" dated Lugers

postino -

If someone else has already cleared this up, please disregard my post.

But in late 1934 Mauser began making Lugers with a "K" over the chamber as a secret date code to conceal the fact that Germany was rearming. (And this was in violation of the treaty which ended WWI - "The Treaty of Versailles")

Then in 1935 they began using the secret date code of "G" for the same reasons.

Starting in 1936 there was no longer any pretense about what was going on, and they started openly dating the receivers with four-digit dates, as with the 1936 - S/42 code Luger, etc.

I used to wonder about this too until I got Still's excellent Third Reich Lugers book.

I've never seen one...but I can't wait to find one at the 5 Dec gun show and ask the seller about it...and hear the wild explanations...
