Default Officer's Barrel?

Hi Guys,
Newby here. My Dad has a WWII Luger with what he calls an officer's barrel. Is that the correct term?

How does it differ from an "enlisted man's barrel", or any other barrel for that matter?

My Dad is under the impression that military officer's had specially fitted barrels.
I am just getting started researching this gun and am very interested in it's history.
Maybe he's mistaken about the barrels.

There are many rumours and misconceptions about lugers. One of the most pervasive is that special lugers were issued to officers; especailly when a dealer finds a nickle or chrome plated one; then you hear how its an officers model or navy model.

Neither is true...

Ed

(but its something commonly beleived by many folks, so no reason to "out" your dad too hard or at all )

bbshuz -

I'm curious as to why your dad would call it that. You didn't say what length it was; or if it had an unusual sight on it (I'm thinking Artillery/Navy/target)...Is it "fatter" than a regular Luger barrel ("Fat Barrel Luger")...Does it have unusual markings?...

See if you can get him to explain...and post some pics of it...

Lugers are like babies...they're all beautiful...
