Default French Unique Model 17 C&R ?

Hello

I am looking for some help to prove a French Unique Model 17 is a C&R . It is not on the BATF C&R list.
I recently bought one and the 01 dealer claims he needs proof or he will not ship to my 03.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike Dunham

Mike,

Send him this link. Tell him to read the red heading.

Mike,

You're welcome. I can't figure people, especially if they are selling guns for a living.

If you're going to sell guns? Read the regulations once in a while!!!

"Firearms automatically attain curio or relic (C&R) status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm. It is not necessary for such firearms to be listed in ATF’s C&R list"

Mike,

It's not listed in the C&R gun list.

The last Unique Model 17s were produced by the Germans in 1944. At the very least any Unique Model 17 Pistol "Kiegs Modell" with waffenamt is 65 years old, and qualifies under BATF regulations as a C&R. If it's not a Kriegs Modell (pre 1940) , just a standard Model 17? It has to be at least 70 years old.

I'm not sure what part of it he can't understand. It's pretty plain and simple.

The only other way would be to have him call his local ATF office and get it clarified.

Mike,

It depends on what state he's in, as to which branch to call. Any of them could clarify it.

Believe it or not, there are many dealers who have no idea what is and what is not a C&R firearm. Many have never even done business with a C&R licensee and do not know what a C&R license is. At the Tulsa show this year one dealer refused to sell me a pre-war Walther, as he had no idea what my C&R license was. I finally had to bring over a friend who was a FFL licensee. He purchased the gun, then transferred it to me on my C&R license.
