Default Fail to fire

I took my Luger to the range yesterday for the first time. It was firing on about every other round. My first thought is the magazine is to blame. There were several times that it wouldn't fire, I worked the action and no live round would eject. I would slap the mag, work the action again and it would chamber a round.

The magazine is old, worn and doesn't seat properly. So I've ordered a new one. When I applied pressure to the bottom of the mag I was able to fire a whole string.

When it did fire it put my Glocks to shame. Amazing accuracy. The action feels strange though having been raised on the Browning style slide action. I've been shooting for the past 29 years so old habits are hard to break.

I went home and tore it down. The firing pin looks to be intact and if I did the check on the sear properly the firing pin is engaging.

However I'm very new to Lugers so any help would be greatly appreciated. Is this a common problem? I'm going with the most obvious problem first and then will progress if necessary.

Thanks.

Since you were able to fire an entire magazine successfully when you put upward pressure on the mag, I expect that the magazine is the problem.

Thanks. Obviously I'm hoping that is the problem in which case it's an easy fix. But I am new to Lugers and the folks here have alot more knowledge and experience about Lugers thank I do. I'm a rookie when it comes to Lugers.

While waiting for the new mag, also do an inspection of your mag catch and spring.
