Default MagTech ammunition in Lugers?

Gentlemen,

As mentioned in an earlier post, one of my Lugers (S/42 1938) is a shooter. My supply of mild Geco ammo is about to run out, but I still have some Brazilian 124 grain MagTech FMJ. Does anybody have any experience with this ammo in Lugers? I'm afraid to run hot 9mm through it, my only MagTech experience so far has been in submachineguns and Inglis High-Power. It doesn't appear particularly hot, but I'd like to hear your opinions.

Hi:

I've never heard of Geco being called mild. In fact, the stuff I fired some years ago was really excellent, but it certainly wasn't mild!!

How does the MagTech fire in your Browning designed P-35? If it's not too hot for it, it should fire o.k. in your Luger.

Do you know the stated velocity of the MagTech ammo? How heavy is the bullet being fired?

I've found that a Luger (with good springs) will fire reliably with 124 gr. bullets being driven at less than about 1150 fps. This is on the hot side, as my pistols fire most accurately and reliably at less than 1100 fps.

Balder,
that's very interesting. I shoot the Magtech 9mm Para with the 95grain bullet regularly in my 5inch barrel Luger shooter. It works absolutely reliable without jamming and very accurate. This ammunition has a comparable characteristic as the 7.65Para. Very fast, very high energy but with a moderate momentum due to the low weight of the bullet. It also works properly with a 4inch barrel but as the bullet velocity is so high a certain quantity of the powder burns outside the barrel causing an enormous flame. I like this cartridge and it is my 9mm standard also in my SIG.

I have fired 200 rounds of Magtech FMC 124gr. through two P08s without experiencing any problems at all.
