Info Needed from the "Swamp"

While being engrossed with work while in the middle of the Everglades, I have found a "K" date East German rebuilt Luger for sale. I have not seen it yet and hope to do that sometimes this week. The pistol is all matching except the barrel has been replaced with a new E. German with Crown/N stamp and an East German military stamp. The mag matches also. The Gothic "S' is stamped on the correct parts. I will keep you posted if I get this one.

Now for my question, what holster would the East Germans have used with this pistol? Would it be a WWII or a post war manufacture one. If this pistol is as told to me, and the price is right, I will buy it, but I do want a holster to go with it. Who can help?

That the seller claims is late 40's or early '50s issue... the photos show it to be in good shape.

This is a German Military German Luger Holster, in near mint condition!!! West German Late 40s to early 50s issue, identical in every respect to the World War 2 WWII, type, complete with the lifting strap, and tool pocket. Has PO-8 Stamping on the back, it has been issued, but is excellent!!!!

I don't know if this helps, but it is all that I can offer at the moment. It may very well be a modern reproduction that the seller is hawking as original post war. The price is excellent ( at least at present ).

Perhaps Tom Heller might have some insight since he has dealt in these imports...

Thanks for the information on the holster. At first it did appear to be a repro, but after looking at e-bay, it does indeed appear to be a post war holster. I put a max bid in $48 and if it goes higher than that, I will bow out. I can always find a nice "post war" repro (ha, ha) for this one if I do buy it. In addition, I feel that possibly the East Germans may have used any WWII holsters that would have been available, so maybe a WWII may work for this pistol. I think I have a spare East German tool and all I would need is an East German magazine to have anice rig.

The pistol sure sounds good and I do not have one of the East German reworks. I think they really are a distinct variation since the work was done by a military arsenal and this one was supposed to be issued to the East German military. I will keep you posted on the outcome of the pistol. Thanks again for the help.

The strap stitching pattern and magazine pouch shape are reminiscent of the mid-1990s Asian copies. I have never seen a W German 40s-50s P08 holster although they might exist.

We first started seeing these holsters at the gunshows some twenty years ago. At that time the leather still had new leather smell. I would suspect that the holster is a modern reproduction, as they faithfully copy the original holsters.

I looked at this holster too. It looks too good to be original. I just wrote it off as a repro. Nice looking though.

Last weekend I saw three repros at the Charlotte gun show priced at $85 for black and $87 for brown. Did NOT buy.

What should a good repro bring these days?

Hi, the correct holster for an East German Luger looks much the same as a soft shell P38 but has an enclosed flap for the butt area. The holsters were made to hold either a P.38 or Luger and have tool pouch sewed in side/ Some look like a pebble grain and some have an oval stamp on back with maker mark and 1951 stamped inside. I just purchased one from Tom Heller a few months back. I will dig around and see if I can find an info sheet that appeared in the American Rifleman in the early 60's which dealt with holsters for P.38s and showed one.

Inter Ordnance sells Repros made in India for $27.95.

They aren't bad, but they smell for a while.

I've seen better repros that sell for around $45.

This appears to be one of the holsters that was indeed made in Germany on the original last for Interarms in the 1970s.
