How do you store your Lugers? Bore Stores bags etc?

Well, now that I've gone from zero to 3 Lugers in a few months (no bills paid though ha ha ha), I'm curious how some of you guys store your Lugers, how you keep them.

The "breathable, silicone cloth lined" Bore Stores bags (Brownell's etc) seem to be a pretty good inexpensive solution, then setting the pistols in the gun safe etc.

The super nice condition 1970's 6" Mauser re-issue (Po-8 not Swiss grip) I got recently came with a nice wood presentation case (not original to the gun, but a pretty nice one), that's a pretty good storage method, but then one is confronted with getting several of the nice wood boxes, do some of you go that route?

I know some keep their pistols in general in a zipper bag like the Ace bags etc, though cloth lined the foam included in the construction makes me wonder if they breath well enough to prevent rust (or a vapor chip in there might be ideal...)

What do you do, how to you store, or display as the case may be?

It does depend on how dry it is where you live? I have for years (very dry where I live), coat the guns with breakfree, and when I put them in a safe, use the Bore Store bags...

I use Bore Store bags too. But I went to a sewing store and bought some heavy mylar (spelling?) material. I cut the mylar into about 2.5 X 3.5 strips and had them sewed on the outside on the bag (only 3 sides). I then can label the bags on the outside.

For storage only, I use vasoline petroleum jelly and apply liberally. When I take them out to the range, I wipe off the vasoline and put a light coat of gun oil on the guns that I am going to shoot. When I return home, I clean the guns and reapply vasoline. Then I store in a dry place.

Be careful not to store the bare guns directly on carpeting. The carpeting contains chemicals that will ruin your guns.

I store mine in a Big Bore silicone bag too. Then I further put it in a plastic pistol case. I also used non-colored tissue paper to wrap (several times over) the mags so that they won't get damaged. Hoppes gun oil is applied to them generously too.

I too used to use gun oil on my guns. But then I thought that the oil was wicking off of the guns and onto the 'Big Bore' bags. Many of my oiled guns appeared to be dry after a lengthy storage.

I also saw many guns whose oil on them was so old that it was hard to make them funcution while I was examining them. That is when I went to the vasoline. A hot lamp will melt the old vasoline petro jelly. Then you can stip the guns and clean off the old vasoline. Besides, vasoline petro jelly is cheap.

I am wary of putting the 'Big Bore' bags in pastic bags because then you are trapping the moisture in the plastic bags. 'Big Bore' bags breath and allow the moisture to escape.

I use a trick that I picked up from G.T. I seemed to have a lot of those Priority Mail boxes laying around, the small kind that a 4" luger will fit into perfectly.
