Been a long time since I last posted here but I would like to share this with you all.
I quit getting Lugers for a long time and concentrated mostly on Walthers and Mausers that were in a modest price range.
Recently I took the plunge and picked this up on my birthday last month.

I didn't realize that the 1900 AE safety had that bare area underneath...

Russell, congratulations on getting this great 1900 AE. As you know I had a chance to see it up close at Mike's shop when you picked it up. You have a 100% pristine AE....enjoy!

'GERMANY' has a distinct halo but not elsewhere. Does this mean it was blued after stamping except for the stamp with a halo?

Not an auction. From a collection and very well cared for.
The white under the safety instead of 'Gesichert' surprised me too.

It has a couple of dings but I'm quite happy.

The area under the safety lever was polished bright under the 1900 AE safety lever. These did not have a GEISCHERT safety marking. See page 412 Central Powers Pistols.

Polished bright or just left un-blued???

I also notice there is no loaded-chamber indicator with 'Geladen' on it...That was pretty surprising, too...(The extractor doesn't even protrude when loaded...Is that a later improvement???)

The bright area is actually cut with an end mill just deep enough to cut through the blue. On an original, not refinished 1900 Luger you can see the swirl marks left by the cutter.

The M1900 extractor is just a flat lugged spring. The improved breechblock with the pivoting extractor did not come along until the transitional 1903/04 Lugers. The new extractor was thick enough to mark, so the 03/04 Navy was marked GELADEN and the 03/04 French was marked CHARGÉ.
