Default SA Luger

I will be looking at a 30 Cal Finnish Model SA Luger.

I've always wanted to own a Luger but i don't know

what to look for.The asking price is $400. Could

any of the experts at this site, give me some pointers?

Thanks in advance for your time........

Richard, take a look to your left under the general information tabs. They can give you loads of information.

For a collector piece, condition is everything. However a couple of things to keep in mind. The .30 Luger costs much more to shoot than one that is in 9 MM. But on the other hand, even declared a shooter, $400 for a Luger in reasonable shape is a good buy!

Most "shooter" Lugers go from $350 (lowest I have seen in recent years is $395) to a normal price of $450 and up to around $600. A shooter is generally one that has been reblued, has parts that have been changed, modifed, the condition is poor with rusting or other problems.

hope that helps a bit,

Ed

Buy any functioning Luger whose finish is not a total mess for $400, that you find.

Hi Richard,

Yes sir

Click on â??Ownersâ?? Cornerâ?. Page down to the folders marked â??Kyrieâ?, and then click on the folder labeled â??1923 Finnishâ?. Therein you will find photos (click on the small image to see a larger one) and a bit of narrative on the history and markings of the SA Lugers.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Kyrie

Are you sure that it is .30 cal? Many Finish Lugers were imported to US a few years ago. I suspect that it is 9mm. Many of them have Finish installed 5" bl. You may find crown N proof on left side of receiver. Some still had wood grips with circle cut-out in right grip that once held a brass disk with unit marks. They sold in the $350-$400 range when imported maybe 8 years ago. Go for it!

You will probably find that the Luger has been refinished and may have Black Plastic grips. Most small parts will be mismatched. Major parts Frame, Barrel Extension and Toggle will probably match. The Finns ran the Lugers throug rework programs during the pistols lifetime. The original pistol will be 30 cal, if rebarreled with Finnish barrel will be 9mm or at least this is what I have seen on most of them. The luger will have a boxed SA as shown on Kyrie's in owners corner. Nice addition, a Luger with lots of history.
