Default My 1940 42 or My Ugly Betty

I picked this gun up from a vet in my retirement community. He says he got it in 1945 in Hamburg. But, his memory was not the best.
It is a complete mis-match but it shoots great. I will post my target sometime in the future when I get home. Ill do my best to show you how "ugly" it is. But I love her anyway. SN 5249n

Inside Grip, both grips have same number, also mis-match to gun.

Mag looks like a Simson, am I correct?

As you can see, not a lot of matching going on here.

This is my first time to post multiple pictures so let me know how these can be improved. Thanks. for all you folks have tought me. Your post, my books and the help I have received from individual communications have been not only helpful but great fun.
My thanks to all.

interesting Yes, a Simson, the triangle S is considered to be an early Simson marking, what serial number is on the bottom?

There is no such thing as an ugly Luger

..it's strange that Betty is without her proof marks on the right side of the receiver. So I quess they have been ground off by the previous owner. Same with the barrel.. I think there should be more than just the one mark. Does the upper part have more blueing than the frame? ..any serial number on the left side of the reciever?

I think the grips might be right. The number on the inside of the sideplate is a production code, nothing on the other side?

As to the mag, you are right about it having a Simson part proof.

I also thought about no proof marks being ground off but if that is so, I really doubt the provious owner did, but Ill never know since his memory is not all there.
Here is a view of the side plate and it does match.

This is the only other picture of the barrel I have. There are no other marks.

By the way, how are pictures posted directly to the post and not via hyperlink?

The barrel does have a great amount of blue compared to the frame.

This is safety that will not stay put as you shoot.

I have heard that before, but during the entire time that Simson made lugers, they didn't make any for commericial sales, so would there be magazines accepted by Simson? I do not beleive that Simson made magazines, there would be no need, they subbed that out to Schmeisser...

I do agree that the triangle S is seen on commerical Simson's, such as the vest pocket.

To post a picture instead of a url, there are two ways. You can click on the IMG button and place each url in the box that coems up. Or you can change all the letters url to img, leaving all [ and ] in place.
