While a Luger is wide from toggle knob ot toggle knob, a P.38 is on the average wider because of the locking block and dual recoil springs housed in the frame. These springs are located horizontally under and on both sides of the slide. The Lugers one main recoil spring in housed vertically in the butt area making the overall width generally thinner. A Dual tone P.38 shown next to a "Jewel" of a Luger. Thor

Ted,

When you look at a photo of the two pistols next to each other, it is amazing how much wider the P.38 looks. Also the Luger looks to be more "delicate" than the P.38. The Walther firm really came up with a winner with the P.38. This is also one of the nicest Dual Tones I have seen too!

OK, OK, I agree that I put a little "plug" in for the P.38, but the Luger is still the best. I compare the two to a woman. One is for going out on the town with and showing off, and the other is for cooking, cleaning, working the fields, etc., Ha, Ha.

ThereÃ?Â´s a picture of the prototype of an imitation Luger made by Walther on one of the last pages of the "official" Walther book. The pistol is owned by the British collector Sturgess and itÃ?Â´s the ugliest pistol IÃ?Â´ve ever seen. Once youÃ?Â´ve seen this pistol, youÃ?Â´ll never trust Walther to make a pistol again. Patrick
