Machine guns?

Ok, after having a regular 01 FFL for 12 years and my C&R for 4 I added a SOT (class 3 dealer)to the list. Anyone else acquired the full auto bug here? Going to get some transferableÃ¢??s as well as some neat post samples as well. I can't wait! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Doug, make sure you're getting an MG42 or the latter MG3.
That'll make the bug stick, it's pure rock'n roll!
Just curious, what would these run for ?

MG-42's that individuals can own sell for $15,000-$24,000. Guns that only class 3 dealers can own (post samples) sell for $1500.

<img src="graemlins/offtopic.gif" border="0" alt="[offtopic]" /> "Post sample" machineguns are those guns that have been manufactured after the legal ban on the manufacture of NEW machineguns for private ownership.

They can only be made, possessed or sold to or by Class 03 Dealers, Special Occupation Taxpayers (SOT) are machine gun manufacturers, Police, Military or Corporations...

"Transferables" are those machineguns that existed before the ban and can be sold to ordinary citizens provided it is not illegal to possess them where you live and you comply with all the federal and local laws. There are only about 250,000 LEGAL Transferables in the U.S. So the cost of this limited pool of weapons is quite high. As an example, It is not uncommon to see WW2 Thompsons sold for $10,000 to $15,000 dollars or more... An full auto M-16 might run anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000 or more...

Caveat: I will warn you that you won't find it as pleasant an atmosphere as the Lugerforum, and the language sometimes gets pretty rough. I am not sure how they would react to someone your age asking questions, but it is the best Class 03 discussion board around.

I don't have the time to go there often anymore, but on the occassions that I visit there I post as "JMPKS"....

The ATF list of "C&R" guns says that a Hotchkiss machinegune is classed as a curio and relic, why aren't all machineguns 50 years old or older obtainable through a "Curio and Relics" license... [img]confused.gif[/img]

You can buy a C&R Machinegun using a C&R license, but you must also meet all regular National Firearms Act requirements for transfer of a machinegun...

It is a very complex process... but any law abiding citizen in the U.S. that lives in a state where machineguns are not prohibited by local laws can own a machinegun if they meet all the red tape required and the have the BIG dollars that it takes to buy them and feed them.

There are also very strict storage and movement requirements... and interstate travel can be a nightmare...

I have never owned a automatic firearm but a close friend was a Fed. class III dealer for many years so I have had the chance see them in action may times. For me, they are just more trouble than they are worth because of all the "Red Tape".

For me, semi-autos burn enough ammo. As I get older, I seem to like the older guns more, like
Lugers. But, I have nothing against them so have fun. The worst day shooting is better than the best day at work.
