On a Russian site is a brief reference to a parabellum pistol being used by an officer to threaten a subordinate in the year 1939, before the commencement of hostilities between Russia and Germany. The address of this site is;http://history.vif2.ru/at war/index.html.Dont know how to list this address so that you can just click on to it,but it is well worth a visit, especially for anyone interested in armor, loads of infom, naturally from the
Russian view point.Click onto the narrative by veteran Danil Zlatkin for the parabellum mention. Soldiers at War |

Bob,
Thanks for letting us know about this site! I have not read all of it this morning, but I want to go through this one good. I have a real problem with what the Russians have to say because my personal opinion is that you cannot believe anything a Commie has to say. From my reading and understanding, the Germans did begin the war with Russia by observing the Genenva Convention Rules, but the Russians were did not follow ANY on the Convention Rules of war, so the Germans fought back the same way, "no quarter". To get a real understanding, you have to read each sides version of the same event and then form a conclusion. In my opinion, there were terrible artrocities performed by both sides on each other, but the Russians would even mutilate the bodies of dead German soldiers to make a point. This sounds bad, but even the American soldiers in Vietnam did mutilate the bodies of NVA soldiers to leave as a warning to will happen. Marvin |

There is a lot of controversy as to the accuracy of the Russian reports and I would take it all with a grain of skepticism, but inacurracy is common to all after action reports of kills, as we did in the Bosnian affair. The Russians also dont mention their defeat when they attempted to flank Stalingrad and lost 40,000 to about a few hundred Germans, but all that aside I thought the technical info regarding weapons was fascinating, especially the armor and the soldiers personal stories. These guys who made the web site dont seem to be communists, but who knows?

Just remember - not all Russians are communists, just as - not all Germans were Nazi's. As for the accuracy of reports - it's all in the telling!
