Post Question on 1916 Erfurt

I have always assumed the suffix letter on my 1916 Erfurt was an "n". However, I recently realized that in 1916 the latest suffix used was a "g". So what letter is this?

Aaron,

After some digital photography magic, I vote for 'g' because think I see the faint image of the 'g' character in the photo you posted...even though it might also be considered to be an 'a' character by some...

In the photo collage, the upper image is the negative of an enlargement of a portion of your photo... the white inset is an example of the 'g' suffix types that came from the technical information page here on the forum...

John, thank you for going to all that trouble, but your expertise with digital imaging is much to be admired. You must work for CSI to be so talented with detective work. I think you are absolutely correct in identifying the suffix as the letter "g". It must have been a very poor strike. Many thanks for your efforts.

I don't work for CSI... just have a very analytical mind and over 30 years of experience with computers, ...and firearms. as for the 'g', it also appears to me that the lower part of the 'g' may have been buffed or lightened by removal of pitting in that area... but this is just a guess, but I can see pitting in the area that you swabbed with a white substance to make the stamps show up better in the photo.

but that is just my
