Default Looking for help trying to figure out the value of this s/24

Hello everyone,

The owner and I are trying to decide a fair value for it so I can decide if it should come home with me. It's a 1937 s/42 numbers matching. I haven't taken it apart to see the internals. Among other things we are unsure if it has been refinished or not at some point. Also the magazine looks like it might be force matched but I'm not sure on that either. He got it from someone years ago who said they brought it back from North Africa in WWII but that can't be verified.

Thank you for any info you can give me on this!

IMO it’s been refinished.

The serial number of the gun has a "q" suffix. The magazine is from 1938 with a "k" suffix and the serial number has been messed with.

Nice photos !

The magazine is not numbered properly - it should have the full 4 digit serial number.
It still features strawed small parts and it has good grips.
This version has no "Mauser hump" - they came a little later.
The two full serial numbers (frame front and under barrel) would have had halos around them.
I also think it was re-blued.

You should look for the rest of the numbered parts, including the grips.

I believe that this Luger is refinished. It looks to be a decent job. Mag is all wrong. Look at the other numbers very closely as someone is trying to pull a "fast one" IMHO.

If it was me and I wanted the pistol I would make a $1,000 offer and evaluate the response. Not much to lose there if the seller accepts the offer, and you get something that you can actually shoot.

Of course, if you want a collectible firearm and are not interested in a shooter grade then that's a whole 'nuther story and you can disregard my opinion.

Default Luger original ?

I loaded a picture of my 37 straw s/42 of original barrel on an early straw 37 like the one you’re showing . See the halos around the barrel numbers ; the picture I see of yours is no Halos and they were there originally. as that was stamped after rust blueing . From the picture I see she’s been re-blued
