Aspiration Pneumonia~
I know its off topic but its totally preventable. Three weeks in ICU and a feeding tube 6 weeks and still inserted in my belly! Asperation pneumonia results from improperly swallowing food or drink. I would swallow my food and drink when rushing and while looking up at the TV! Some leakage into your windpipe is tolerated. But more liquid or food that may cause bacteria to enter in your lungs. The only alternate is to be only be fed food through a hole in your stomach! A pain in the ass rubber tube hanging tube that must be flushed and bandage change daily! I hope to have it removed next week at the Surgery Center! Don't look up or rush swallowing. Practice swallow downward! If you have prolonged abnormal coughing, seek medical advice! I survived everything but this almost caused my death! Eric The Survivor!! READ THIS!! https://www.healthline.com/health/aspiration-pneumonia I don't want it to happen to you and a $122K bill! https://www.htstherapy.com/prevent-a...ion-pneumonia/ I don't want this happen to you!! It can be fatal!!

Eric, it sounds like you got the equivalent of a "lung squib". Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and ready for the armourer to let you out of the shop.

At first I wondered why only myself got pneumonia. Who did I catch it from?? ME!! I have a high TV and I eat looking up! Food went in my lung! Its like giving CPR. The head is tilted back creating a clear path into your lungs!! I have learned to keep my head level and downward when I swallow! Your lungs will process some overflow! I don't want this happen to each of you. It Sugggggs! God Bless!Doc appt tomorrow! Eric

Hope you're healed soon. And you seem to have dodged a bullet. It can be very serious. During my first responder training we learned of the importance of preventing a victim/patient from aspirating their vomitus. If they do that, even with immediate medical care, the chances of survival are 50/50 at best.
Good luck! |

I hope everything goes off as planned! We hope that from now on, your epiglottis will slam shut when it's supposed to, to keep you safe.
I received the pneumonia vaccination a couple of years ago, as recommended for geezers. Did this condition over=ride your vaccination's protection (if you had the shot)?

TKS Doc wants me to retake the radioactive barium cookie swallow test to be sure I'm swallowing correctly. Another waste of money and time as I have been eating well for over a month with no cough or aspiration! I guess I have to play the game and buy more bandages at Walgreens! This is getting old!! If I had no insurance all of this would be over, I'm sure!! Eric

Its all caused by my Trech in Costa Rica, years ago while in coma. Permanent Injuries. I have to be careful swallowing and only drink thickened liquids.
