Default Catch 22

Ok you order a pistol from someone and its shipped to
your local FFL license person. He won't give you the
pistol till you fill out the form and pay him the $30.
Then you had three days to look it over. If you decide
to send it back, its now in your name. How do people
do this?

Thoroughly inspect it at the dealer, when the pistol arrives. If you have firearms shipped to you often, it is best to know your dealer well.

Many dealers will let you inspect before taking into possession.

However, if you decide that you don't like it, you generally lose shipping and FFL cost both ways.

Depends on the deal you make.

I personally hate returns so I give plenty of pictures and description. If returned, fine but I'd like a better reason than I changed my mind

If the dealer won't let you look at it in the shop before doing paper work- find another dealer; but you may need to pay him the $30 first- after all, at that point he has done his "work".

A visual inspection should catch any glaring errors in description, three day inspections are non firing from most sellers.

In my state, when it arrives at the LGS, it is signed into his inventory. When I pick it up (and pay the receiving fee, pass the NICS, and register it with my local permit clerk), I receive a receipt from the LGS. Then it is my property.

I've never been able to get to any of my purchases in any inspection period, and there has been only one I was disappointed in. A Luger, by chance. I still have it, and would like to pass it on, but handgun legislation is in a state of flux and nobody knows what is going on, least of all the people charged with the paperwork.

My dealer only opened the box with me there and let me look it over before he entered into his books.

I guess that is the answer, to give him the $30 first and look at it
before he transfers it into my name. I suppose he would charge extra
if you wanted it shipped back.

Get your C&R, then this is a non-issue.

That is what I said 60 years ago. Good luck with that.

Quit complaining!

Was someone holding a gun on you - making you buy lugers???

Like Ron said, it is not likely to stop by itself- I already told you
you need an "intervention".

Three Lugers in a month?? I can tell you one way to control the pace, and also benefit you in long term -- don't hold these guns, play a little bit, sell them. In this process, not only you recovered some fund, this also forces you to follow the market rule. I bet you heard many people saying they collect what they like, never sell, etc. You need to be rich to play that way. But this is not only done from financial point of view, but also help you touching more guns, expand vision, etc. Also, since selling is occupying your time, you will automatically control buying pace. From learning perspective, you can not only learn in buying process, you also learn and gain knowledge from the opposite side.

Alvin,
sound advice- and a post I can agree with 100%.

Paul,
Lugers are nothing like puppies! Show me two lugers, and I'm more likely to buy both and for sure not "none".

Don
I do realize I have a weakness. I wanted an AR15 and now I have 4. Nobody in
their right mind need 4.

Alvin.
I will get one to run right , and probable sell the rest. I have an $800 dog that we
have spent $17,000 keeping her alive. A person has to have their priorities. Mine
are a little sketchy at this point in my life. I do find buying something you like is
really gratifying, so what is a few hundred bucks spent?

Ah ah!

Don't worry, happened also to me, and unfortunately not only with Lugers, I mean also with other guns...

Understandable. This hobby helps on focusing, it's a good place to spend some money and effort.

Yep destroyed two piggy banks and am working on the third!
Hopefully will get my next one after five. It shows to be there
but they hold you off till then. Its a range and they give you
a free shoot when the change your paperwork. I got my fingers
crossed this one will function correctly.
