I thought it was a 'done and over' deal as crazy gold hunters. Be fascinating if they find something. I watched a program on stolen art by the Nazi's, a very large amount never has been found (probably blown up, burned or in Michigan

I would enjoy reading/seeing pics of a recovered WW II locomotive. Especially an armored locomotive. With flak guns.

If I were the Polish Government, I would have let this die down, as well, then start digging quietly.

The fact that they haven't allowed them to dig points in that direction, doesn't it? I can't see any legit reason why they can't go ahead and get it over with, it's just like they're stalling it to wear out the treasure hunters.

But of course, it could also be that History Channel is there dragging it out by shooting a 10 season TV show. "In this weeks episode, Piotr fights local officials to get permission to dig..."

This is reminiscent of the so called money pit on Oak Island in Halifax, Canada. The world watches and waits to see if anything will ever come of it.

That's exactly what I was referring to. I started watching it, but after a few episodes I realized that this is something they will drag out ad nauseam. Still, I'm sure that many people love to spend an hour of their life watching an episode that ends with the crew losing equipment in the pit, unearthing "a significant piece of wood" or a similar, anticlimactic event. However, I would like to watch the last episode whenever it airs... I hope they have History Channel at the nursing home.

And the obvious thing is, since they film months in advance, any discovery would already be all over the news. It would be impossible to keep it quiet. And since there is no news of a discovery, what can we actually look forward to?

Absolutely correct Doug, I should have thought of that.

... then there are all the legal questions. Who owns what, jewish claims, and the BIG BEAR... Russia! Anything from Russia, Putin will insist on having returned at the risk of military action! While poor Poland was decimated by the Nazis and Soviets at the beginning of war and had to suffer under the Iron Curtain for many years and will want restitution to be tied to any returned items - the Amber Room?

So maybe it would be better to wait until Putin leaves before finding out what is down there. There are still some secrets from WWII that can't be told or even asked...

I sat in to round table discussions at the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising with Polish & US WWII vets (my dad flew a mission to drop them supplies on 18 Sep 44) and the Poles were NOT happy that they were not free after the war, but still occupied by the USSR. So there are still bitter relations with Russia.
