Sounds like a WW2 German military gun, 9mm caliber. Not much else to tell without more info.

This a 1940 (year made) 42 (Mauser code name) Luger with eagle 655 acceptance markings.
The markings on the right seem washed away? Rest seems original, but hard to say with these pictures. Ed

Looks like a nice original wartime gun. The cursive A shows what block it was made in, about all have them.
