I have a very nice commercial luger I plan to post for sale. My knowledge of lugers is minimal at best. I need assistance in determining a percentage of bluing and strawing for my pistol. Also I have two magazines but cannot determine which is original to my luger. The serial number is 4444 with a crown N mark. Is this info researchable?
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. |

the magazines would be correct period
is the luger marked 'germany' anywhere? I am thinking its been refinished but we need to see some close ups of markings, edges etc.

When we see one this clean we immediately think reblue. Can't really tell from the photos. The straw is very nice to be original but could be. More pictures might help. Your mags as Ed said are fine for this luger. I assume this is 30 cal. ? Bill

Looks like a very nice commercial to me. In 30 these generally bring well under $1000. If original and matching this one should bring a bit more because of its unusual condition.
Can we see photos of the top, muzzle, grip straps, etc? dju |

What does the inside of the barrel look like, as this also will impact value, greatly. Sieger |

Not marked Germany anywhere else on gun. All numbers match. Bore and rifling very good. Was my grandfather's Luger and I personally know it had not been refinished in last 50 years. I can't imagine it being refinished prior to that. Will post additional pics tomorrow.
Thanks much for help |

If the bore and rifling are only in "very good" condition, this will lessen the value, as mint or mirror mint, is usually what the serious collector looks for. Let's seen now, is there any pitting in the grooves or are they dark or frosted? If they are shiny, then the barrel is at least in excellent condition or may be better. Sieger |

The Luger looks pristine.....and original....value (retail) is 900-1200 ...would be worth more if it was a Military example...

Hi,
You will need a better photo of the bore, before you advertise the pistol for sale, as this one appears to show dark grooves and pitted lands. You might want to run a few bore solvent soaked patches through the bore and try a different light angle, as this photo, as it is, might just queer your deal. If the bore is in the condition described above, my price for the pistol would be in the $800 to $900 range. Sieger Last edited by Sieger; 03-05-2014 at 11:10 AM. |

I like the gun and see no problems with it, and it seems to be in excellent original condition. I agree that $1200 is a good and reasonable value, but ultimately it is worth exactly as much as, or as little as, someone with real money is willing to pay for it.

What percentage of bluing and strawing would you list this as?
Will the second magazine be of more value sold with the luger or sold on the accessory market? Thanks again |

If it was refinished, it appears an excellent job. The toggle axle retention pin's end is still in the white, as is the inside of the frame, from what the pics show. It appears to me to have a slightly 'matte" look, which would be evidence of prep/cleaning for a refinish. Check for this with a 10x loupe; look for the surface to be covered with tiny peen marks from the blasting medium. The teeny craters will be everywhere, even down into the stamped markings.
Its current finish is somewhere in 90s percent, IMO, but there are better judges of this number than I. Since mags for commercials are generally unmarked, or at least not specific to the gun, they should be easier to sell than numbered ones, but for a bit less, I think, as military is the hotter item. You might come out a bit ahead by selling the spare, or maybe just even, compared to keeping it with the gun. They'd be in the $100-200? range??

It may be the lighting in the photo, but I don't see halos on the barrel serial number. These are very prominent on the barrel of my DWM Alphabet Commercial from the "m" block.
I believe that this one is in the "p" block, right? sn 4444p Mike, please take some pictures of that area in natural shaded daylight instead of flash and try and get that area in sharp closeup... Marc

Thanks Mike, the Halos are present, which is evidence it hasn't been refinished.
I agree with the $1000 - $1200 price estimate for this beautiful condition DWM Alphabet Commercial Luger. Marc
