CMP M1 Garand clinic
Participated in a CMP M1 Garand rifle clinic and shoot Sunday with my son (the lefty in the pictures). It was allot of fun and I learned a couple things I didn't know, like how to load less than eight rounds.
There were nine shooters, and it was great to hear nine Garands letting loose at the same time during the rapid fire portion of the match. Marc |

Man I bet that was nice. I recently bought an M1 Garand and have been dying to shoot it.

I shoot those matches locally, and always come away with a smile (regardless of score).
It is interesting just how well those rifles can be shot with a bit of instruction and the right conditions. Young eyes help too... dju |

Reminds me of my first Big Bore marksmanship training in ROTC in 1966 at Fort Dix, NJ... I was blessed to score higher than the entire upperclass ROTC battalion...
I miss those days when I could actually see the targets at 100 yards...

Very cool!
Two of my friends have Garands, I like them and will have to consider getting one of those in the future. |

I bought an M1 through the NRA in about 1974. It was like new and cost $94. Our club had a DCM shoot every month with ammo supplied for 50 cents. Lots of fun and how could you beat the price? My son has the gun today and he and my grandson keep it active.

I got a CMP M1 about 10 years ago.
It's a '43 with a '46 barrel and a replacement stock so it likely saw some action during the war. I love shooting it but it doesn't get out much anymore since it's so expensive to feed and such a PITA to clean. |

I've been a High Power competitor for 25 years, and my club still holds at least one Garand-only match a year. Of course these days we all use AR15s for most matches, but the old M1 is a superb weapon. I've put around 2000 rounds through my DCM Garand over the years, and it has NEVER malfunctioned.....a classic for the ages.

Was this the CMP Advanced Maintenance Class? I saw where the fee is $1400 but you also get to keep the M1 you build.
