I once owned an obviously poorly re-reblued worn low $ erfurt 4" 9mm luger which had the same crossed swords proof at the same place on the slide and also several of the eagle N proofs but I dont recall any caliber marks or whether rebarreled

I always wondered what this really neat proof mark was about so this seems like closure on that now

anybody know where this proof mark has been documented ?

same seller has some neat other offerings

Is it post WWII rework in East Germany?

I do believe that is an East German rework or VOPO luger. I know that Edward Tinkers "Police Lugers" book talks about them. And these markings look like something that would be on them.

Personally I think that these markings are unique and very cool to have one marked with these markings. I am sure someone else will chime in about these markings that have more insight on this.

Very cool gun though.

The origin of the marking is in the for sale ad..."Luger 1940 rework Franken & Lunenschloss". The firm was in Liege, Belgium until 1914. It pretty much went out of existence until after the war, then it resumed business in Köln (Cologne), Germany.

Maybe I'm mentally challenged, but I'm still confused....did this firm rehabilitate Lugers which were then returned to service in the Wehrmacht, or was this a commercial endeavor?

Did a little more research. I think the markings are out of Suhl during the Weimar era and not 1940. At any rate, it is a Franken & Lunenschloss rework for the commercial market.
