I don't know too much about Lugers, Ive been buying and learning, and so far been getting killer deals. But my luck may run out soon enough if I dont start studying.
Hoping someone chimes in with some knowledge about this one. |

Your luck isn't running out with deals like that. Looks like a fine shooter and the mag and holster are worth quite a bit too.

Artillery notch perfectly normal for a 1918 Erfurt. Bill

Now, considering it has matching arsenal/refurb on the frame and upper.
Does this mean when it was transferred for PD use it was put together? Or is this just a simple mismatch/shooter? Last edited by wdpian; 09-22-2013 at 10:38 AM. |

Not in all ERFURT at all, I've got an ERFURT a double date like yours, (1918/1920) and has got the artillery notch too, I assume it's because ERFURT in 1915 devoted all its efforts in the production of artillery guns, so it's quite common to find guns dated after 1915 still with the artillery frame notch.

This is really really interesting to me as it has two parallels to a piece of mine.
DWM P.08 frame with no lug and added hold open device Erfurt double date matching top. But, it has an unnumbered barrel (Simpson proofed) sear safety no unit marks matching al bottom mag trigger looks like Mauser (blued) TD lever strawed but mag release, safety and ejector blued. non conventional numbering. Sam Costanzo was of the opinion that it is a post-war gunsmith special--which is probably correct. Not sure how many post-war gunsmiths would have gone to the trouble of adding a sear safety, but I think the probability of that is higher than the probability of it being a police rewook from the 20-30s. When I get back from the mediclal clinic today I'll post some pictures. http://www.worldoflugers.com/index.htm Gary Last edited by mystical_tutor; 09-27-2013 at 05:49 PM. Reason: Add URL |

Erfurt made artilleries only in 1914. The notch is found on late 1916 Erfurts and almost all 1917-1918 's. This from Jan Stills " Central Power Pistols". Bill
