I was wondering if the .45 caliber mausers were rarer then most because I saw one the other day'

Very rare, since Mauser never made one

Copies of the C96 were made in China, in .45 ACP.

lol oh shoot It had a 3000 and some price tag on it. May be a fair price but... I would rather pay 3000 for a mauser made one.

These were imported into the US in the late 80s, early 90s. I remember the .45 variants advertised for $900 in Shotgun News.

During the 1970s, Interarms seriously considered asking Mauser to take up production of the C96 pistol again. They asked Mauser for a fully functional version, but if the C96 would not pass the US firearms safety tests, if they could produce a C96 air pistol instead.

Mauser declined, they had been struggling to get the Parabellum and HSc sold at a decent profit, so they figured (rightfully so) that the C96 would be a guaranteed loss.

In 2006, my gunsmith took in trade a Chinese manufactured 45 cal. C96 in excellent shape, I could have picked it up for $800 or so. I passed; big mistake. C'est la vie, live and learn. MR

Newly assembled .45 Shansei regularly goes around $1500 these days (usually in 70%-90% shape, common, see them every month if not every week). Original ones goes $4000-$5000 (usually in 10%-30% shape, rare). If it has importer stamp, or it's "Nationalist Year 18" made without documented provenance, I would say it should go around $1500. Some instances of 1980's Shansei were sold much higher on gunbroker.com though.

Unlike newly assembled 9mm "Selbstlader" with newly made frame, removable magazine and some genuine Schnellfeuer parts, Shansei, regardless year of making, is counted as C&R.

[Edit] Since old and new Shansei were well mixed on the market, if you have an original one for sale, better send it to an auction house for good price. It's hard to sell it yourself.

Two .45ACP Shansei were sold yesterday, acquired by one guy who collects it. I believe those two instances are real. It's interesting to note the grip screw on original Shansei was inserted from right hand side and screwed on the left hand side. The newly imported Shansei did not copy that, it reversed the direction.

Each one sold $7000. The buyer said his real cost of each one was $8260.

There was one "Year 18" listed on gunsinternational.com for years, which looks original to me. I bet it can be bought at $4000-5000, not sure why he did not want it, probably because "Year 18" was too troublesome, in general.
