Looking for a replacement hand grip screw. I acquired this and want to disassemble and clean but noticed the screw probably won't make it. Are these hard to come by? The numbers match but it is a little crusty. I am going to clean the hand grips the way that is posted, anything special to cleaning the pistol itself? I am planning on just using gun gleaner and a toothbrush to clean, then coating with a light coat of oil.
Thanks, Thomas |

Thomas..With a pistol that rusty you need some help from 0000 steel wool. Dipped liberally in oil steel wool will take off the rust and leave whatever bluing is left intact.
Just be sure there is plenty of oil involved. Don't use it dry or with solvent. OIL. Very generous Howard. Your a standup guy!

Howard, thanks for the offer. I will pm you the address. I tried to unscrew it today and it did break. I am just trying to get rid of the rust. I am going to give the steel wool a try.
Jerry, I will be pm'ing you also to see about getting the holster repaired. Just some stitching that has come undone on the flap. |

But the good thing is, I got the grips off and the serial numbers match the pistol. I am going to clean them up, they should turn out good. Jerry, I just moved from Yuma a few months ago, over on 39th Pl, not far from you. Wish I could just walk it over to you instead of shipping. Last edited by TominVA; 12-29-2011 at 02:12 PM. Hey TominVA, what part of VA are you located? I live in Winchester and work in downtown DC.

I got the screw out. After the head broke off, I took it to a gunsmith who removed it for $25, at least I didn't mess it up. Now I have to finish cleaning it, put it back together and enjoy it for years to come. |

Apparently the rust was pretty bad, but in many cases soaking the rusty screw and area in Kroil Oil will loosen it up and it will come out without that hassle and expense. I realize that the area of the grip is tough to work in.
