Hi, I'm new to the forum and have learned a ton of stuff about my Luger, but cannot find any info on unit markings. I was hoping somebody could help me out or maybe post a link on where I could find different unit markings. My Luger is a 1915 DMW with the unit marking 16. The marking is not at all what I've seen on the unit markings thread and I was thinking the gun might be a pieced togather gun or something. All the serial numbers match except for the magazines and the marking in the picture below. Any help or info would be greatly apriciated, Thanks.

It's impossible to see in any pictures because it is simply etched into the metal and my camera cannot pick it up; does that mean that it isn't a unit marking?

Hi Eric, Welcome to the forum! Is 16 the only mark or are there some letters as well? Is it stamped into the front grip strap, or is it somewhere else on this gun? Even bad photos are better than no photos. Regards, Norm

16 is the only visible mark and doesn't look like other unit markings that I have seen on this site.

It could be a pre 1922 provisional Reichwehr marking but those are obscure, as is your marking, so it's hard to tell.

Much smaller font than usually presented here...

The font is smaller and it is horizontal rather than running vertical along the front grip strap like I've seen on most other markings. As I posted earlier it has the DMW stamp on top and the date 1915.
