Colorado Thermal Fireproof Storage

I am rebuilding my collection storage and was looking at alternative storage ideas. I am curious if anyone has any experience with this company or these boxes:

Also would like to hear about any alternatives for storage that might be good.

Hey Clark.....I know you have some great early Lugers, and it makes sense you want to protect 'em....these trunks might be fire resistant, but they have one major flaw....someone can pick 'em up and carry them away! I'd advise, if funds allow, that you invest in a good safe with fire lining, something like a Liberty.....I have a mid-level one, paint job like a Mercedes, weighs 700lbs and no ones getting in it without an acetyline torch!

Agree, I just got a 24 gun winchester safe, fireproof for 1 hr @ 1400f. Delivered to my door for $815. Ist a 500+lbs. beast.

Ok, here is my experience.

I have two gun safes, both reasonably heavy and very lightly fire proof.

While living in Castle Rock, we had a house fire, bad enough that it burnt the kitchen and the entire house had to be gutted! that meant many, many items had to be tossed out, to include many books from the smoke, rather than fire.

Even locked and closed, and in the basement where the smoke is less likely to go, my gun socks were smokey and smelly.

A fire proof safe is good but is meant to protect until the fire is quickly put out by the fireman.

So, unless you have a separate room that is fire resistant and then more safes, your stuff is at risk.

A friend of mine has a fire suppression system (water) above his safe, sounds crazy but he felt that the water was easier to clean and re-oil his guns than a fire burning away next to his safe....

Also it should be noted that the safes are rated for different temperatues and different time periods.
