I attended the Ohio gun collectors show this weekend. I was a guest and had a guest pass, which means you can't buy, so I did not want to bug anybody too much. There were well over 50 lugers there. 3 navy's, one with what looked to be a complete rig, that I saw and a bunch of artilleries, many with the stock and holster. The cheapest lugers seemed to be about 750 and those were really rough. Lots of P38s under 450 bucks.
The largest selection I saw was with a dealer from Illinois. I looked at a 30 cal with a six inch barrel, but not a navy rear sight. The barrel was stamped "GERMANY" all in caps (I think) and not too well stamped. There were a number of the crown N proofs on the left side of the gun ( looked like the #4 proof from the lugerforum proof section). I was not too sure about the blueing which looked rather uniformly worn, but the lighting in the hall was not too hot. The dealer believed it to be a 1920s commercial model. Best report a newbie can do. Did look stylish and was a confirmation of what Thor says is a great shooter. I did not ask the price, I think I will shop for a 30 with a rough bore and send it the rounds of the guru's on our list for new barrel and doll job. |

Enjoyed your update. I saw several Lugers at our San Diego Gun Show. All in poor condition and all were over priced.
Yes, fixing up a shooter is a great way to go. Today I purchase a 6" Luger barrel and extension conversion kit for my 4" shooter. I am tickled pink with the prospects of having a 6" shooter. Dan |

That allows you to switch from one barrel length to another.

Heinz: I am a member of the Ohio Gun Collectors Assoc. And the show you attended in Wilmington was one of the best one's we have ever had. By the way the Dealers guns you were looking at belonged to Fred Fiet from Illinois. Generally I sit with him during the shows to rest my feet. There were other luger dealers there also such as Doug Smith from FGS. Your guess on there being about 50 lugers was a bit on the low side. I would say the show had at least 2 to 300 lugers or more if you were to include all that were available from all the dealers. And yes, they are priced probably from $500.00 to $15,000.00 or more. I was lucky enough to pick up a Crown/Anchor Portugese '06 I have been looking for - for sometime and got it pretty reasonable. No mag, but then I just went over to Freds table and bought the 9mm script mag that is correct for that gun. Anyways I am glad you got to attend and hope you join. It is a wonderful organization and very exciting to belong to such a fantastic group. The shows used to be in Cleveland but because of goofy Cleveland City ordnances against gun shows we had to move. It is an hour and half further but worth every extra mile. And by the way like myself Fred and I are CADA and NAPCA members also. Fred is chairman or president of CADA. Another wonderful organization to belong to. Also at the OGCA meetings, Bob Simpson another great dealer in Lugers sometimes attends and he also adds to the pot additional lugers to look at and drool over of course. If you decide you want to join the OGCA it is easy and well worth your time and costs very little money. Just the money you will spend on Lugers is all that it will cost you.

Sam,
I agree that the OGCA gun shows are the best. About 6 years ago, I was on assignment in Ohio and one of my Vendors was a member and we went to every show they had while I was there. Since I was not a member, I could not buy, but we did work around this problem since I had an Ohio residency card. The prices were very resonable at the show and most of the dealers I talked with were knowledgeable about guns. It was pleaseure to be at these shows. I just wish Ohio was not so far away now. Sam, thanks for the information. I did join. Fred seemed very courteous and really had some nice looking Lugers. He was a little busy and I obviously could not buy anything on the guest pass so I did not want to bother him.
I did get his card. I would have guessed over 200 lugers but I knew there were at least 50. I will try and look you up at the next show. I was also impressed with the number and price range on broomhandled mausers. |

Heinz: let's keep in touch and met up at the next show. The next one is in March, same time as CADA but I like this one better. I usually go with a client or friend and we spend every bit of 4 to 6 hours there each time we go. We can met at Fred's table and enjoy our time with him and his many lugers he has to offer. SAM
