Default Barrel Sleeve

I'm looking for a gunsmith who can sleeve a 9mm P.38 barrel to .30 Luger for a shooter I'm building from parts. Do any of you guys have a lead for me?

Do a search on "Redding" and you might find the address. They reline barrels.

I've heard good things about the "Broom Closet", somewhere in Florida...but I have no first-person knowledge of them...

Why not chop off the 9mm barrel and thread the receiver for a 30 cal Luger barrel??? Maybe not the whole barrel stub, but enough to hold it securely...You might have to extend the chamber a bit, but you can rent a 30 Luger chambering reamer (or find a nut with one sitting on his bench, next to his other Broomhandle/Luger projects)...I think this was a common modification, years ago...

I've been thinking of a long barreled P-38...When the economy picks up...

Try "Redmans Rifling". They reline Broomhandle barrels. Maybe you can talk them into doing your P38 barrel.

Why not just buy a replacement barrel?

Does anyone make a P-38 barrel in 7.65mm Luger???

I see that Numrich shows a [used] 9mm P-38 barrel for $155...Looking at the pic, a threaded-in barrel could be done, but it would have a long thread...I.E., you couldn't use a Luger barrel without leaving some of the old rifling (and chamber) intact...

What I've always disliked about the thin-walled sleeves is that they need to be silver-soldered in...

Looking at a pic of the P-38 barrel, I like the idea of sawing off the old barrel, drilling & threading the breech block full-length, and turning a new barrel from a blank...With integral FSB...

But then I tend to get carried away with projects like these...

Tom Heller once gave me the phone number for a guy also named Tom who works for the Gun Rack in FL as a possible source for barrel relining... I haven't called him, but here is the number if you want to try...

Please share what you find out with the forum in this thread.

Googling "The Broom Closet" (which was mentioned on the m1896 forum) turns up a thread in thehighroad which comments that "The Gun Rack" and "The Broom Closet" are the same, and may be located in Bentonville, Florida (although this last was questioned)...

The number is a private house and the nice lady said it wasn't the gun shop anymore and didn't know the number, so she must get a lot of calls for them.

There are few guys on the P.38 forum that have been asking me if I had luck in my search as well. If I find someone, he may have 10 barrels or more to reline!
