Hi! First post here from Clark in Nashville. Sorry if this is wrong forum - I'm still figuring them out.
This is a 1938 S/42 with a 6" barrel. Please see the following picture provided by the owner whom I am considering acquiring from. The serial # on the receiver is X'd out and the correct matching one above it. Also, I believe the "U" with the crown above it is a Oberndorf Commercial Proof or VOPO proof , but I cannot identify the one above it. Under the X's is that a Suhl Eagle? I'm waiting for barrel markings. Aaargh. ![]() Any insight on the X'd out serial or the proofs? Is this one junk or valuable? Thanks for your time and comments! Clark Rickman Nashville TN |

If you are looking for a shooter class gun and the price is right ok. If you are looking for anything that is original or collectible no. The barrel is not original. Can't tell about other numbers except the forced match one on the receiver. Others may feel differently but probably a $700 shooter if the barrel is good. Bill

I persoanlly think its a $800-$900 shooter, as it has a 6 inch barrel attached and that always sells well

You can stamp different numbers all over the gun, if you want, as long as the number on the front of the frame is clear and legible. This is the ONLY number ATF considers the gun's serial number.
