Can you guys Identify this Luger?

Can you guys Identify this Luger? I don't have it anymore but I was just hoping for the model type. I think 1881 was imprinted in the gun if i'm not mistaken. Thanks.

John, Welcome to the Luger Forum. Your information is too sketchy to tell much. It is a DWM..or appears to be. Military or I think I can see acceptance stamps on the right rail.

Other than that there is just no way to know...1881 may have been imprinted on the pistol and that would have to have been the serial #. Likely the date was over the chamber but that would have had to be between 1910-1918 unless it was 1920 or 1921 or there are some other possibilities. Slight tho they are.

I'm sorry, if can't tell already I'm fairly new to this can you please explain what is DWM. Also, do you think there is any website or other place where I can use the serial number to trace it back? Thank you for your time and help.

John, DWM is Deutch Waffen Und Munitionfabriken, the German Company that manufactured these pistols.
The serial #, even if you had it will do you no good to" trace it back". The same serials were used over & over in subsequent runs.
Youtube may have shown a 1911 but that would have been the date found on the chamber..not the Model or type.

What is your interest in this particular pistol?

I'm just curious to know why it was having accidental discharges. Even though its probably not possible since I don't have it in my possession anymore. The Luger was my uncles but after a while he thought it was to dangerous to manage and sold it. I've just been puzzled why it was so unreliable after a while.

Might just be the pictures.. but looks like a toy gun to me.

If you look at the front sight you will see that it is setback from the muzzle( unusual) the height of the base suggest a 9MM.
and I also think there are milatary proof on the right side.
Smooth grips.

I know I have seen this sight arrangement before but not very often-> anyone have any suggestions on what we are looking at?

P.S. it is a 9mm...you guys can ask me even though i don't know alot about luger I can maybe from memory tell you what I saw or something.

If I recall correctly = IIRC

Proofs and acceptance would be on the right side, upper right of the receiver.

If you need to know what a receiver is, I would suggest you go to our technical section and read just a bit; might help us help you.

An accidental discharge could be a worn sear, trigger, etc on other guns, not sure on a luger. Without it in hand, impossible to say.

I have to agree with Morgan..The silver shine on the grip in the first photo and the non existant checkering would leave me to believe this is a cast aluminum replica of a Luger.

Guys this is no replica no toy. Its the damn picture, I should have taken an up and close shot of it. The original picture shows my entire body and is an 8 megapixel cam. So I just zoomed to original size which is pretty big and cut this piece out. So its not all that clear and fuzzy but trust me its a heavy 3-4 pounds 9mm shooting machine! I have shot this Luger before and its a beast.
