Default Inheirted a DWM luger and shoulder holster

I'm new to the site today, please forgive neophyte questions.

I think the maker is DWM. Serial number is 8_ _8, with _8 numbers on other parts. All match. Chrome plated. Clear grips. Shoulder hoster with a pocket for extra clip.

Uncle was a sargeant in US 28th at Bastogne. Captured there.

He also found a WWI sword LF&M 1918 plated, with strap hangar.

Can anyone help me with date of manufacture? A local man said it was made in WWI, probably an 'artillery' model, with shortened barrel after peace?

Thank you very much.

Hamish
Without more description and pictures impossible to tell you much. The plating was not done by the German Army. Some GI had that done and also the clear grips. If you can send a few pictures I am sure you will receive answers. Welcome to the forum. Bill

Hamish, welcome to the forum. Privacy is great, except when you are looking for information Lugers were made by DWM for over 50 years, so your serial number most likely has a 'suffix" in the front of the frame, just under the SN.

Thank you.

There is some kind of symbol: looks like a scripted, lower case 'h' with a horizontal line off the hump of the h? SN is 8808

Hamish,
The lower case script initial you desribed is probably a (k).

Okay, thanks to all.

WOULD ANYONE CARE TO GUESS WHEN THIS BEASTIE WAS MANUFACTURED? OR WHERE I COULD LOOK UP THE SERIAL NUMBER? I'M USED TO 1911s and ease of research there.
HELP!?!

Well, with so little to go on, we need more help. 1911's were made in America and Clawson and others actually had shipping records to go by. there isn't anything like that.

We need;

Is there a date on top?

What caliber is it?

What are the proofs on the right or left?

Good Morning, Ed

Thank you ever so much for your patience! I don't have a camera, so we're back to smoke and hand signals.........

Your questions:

>No date on top. Just: 'DWM' in fancy script, with an '08' beneath.

>9mm

>Proofs

Left side: None, just '8808'
Right side, next to barrel start on frame: 4 Marks

(1) lowercase 'm' with an underline, over an inverted whale, with an underline beneath it;

(2) fancy letter 'L' with a loop on upper left

(3) fancy letter 'L' with a loop on upper left

(4) fancy letter 'L' with a loop on upper left

I'm guessing when Uncle George customized it over there when he was in the Constabulary, and had it plated, the markings were worn off.

The barrel is not original, as the man here said, and has the remains of a German eagle on top.

Underneath barrel is a '4.' Beneath that is the number 8 , 84

I'll just use it as a shooter.

Sorry to be a pain.

Best Regards, John
