Need Help.
A friend of mine has a 1942 Banner rig, beautiful gun, but it has black plastic bottom mags with the gun. Did the police ones ALWAYS come with thier own numbered mags, or since this was the last year of production, could weapons have been issued with these?.........thanks, Ron Angleton |

Is it actually a police gun? If not the mags could be correct.

George: I'm sorry I forgot to include that. Yes it is an eagle L marked gun. So it would NOT be right for the police gun?
I have in my possession, a 1940 Banner with a police eagle on right hand side of the frame, sear safety, police holster-- 1940 dated, 2 matching mags to the gun, however the gun absolutely has NO letter after the police eagle. It is obviously a police gun with all the stuff with it, but I can't understand why no letter after the eagle?? Any explanations or ideas on this? Have you ever seen or heard of this before?........Ron |

Ron, the 1940 may well have been a pistol intended for commercial or "contract" sale that was drafted into police use after manufacture. I don't think there are any absolutes to this era banners.

Thanks for your reply George, unfortunately I'll never know what happened for sure, but I am happy with it, and thats all that really counts. I think that the P-38 program was going hot and heavy then, and lugers were being phased out--a million different things could have happened in alot of different scenerios. I'm sure this one isn't the only one in the world like it...............Ron
