I purchased a luger recently and would be grateful for any comments on the date of manufacture and history. I have included on the attachments all the markings I can see. Thanks

This is the serial number.

Ivan,
You have a Model 1908 Military (Army) First Issue. The marking on the "handle" (grip) indicates that it was issued to the 67th Regiment, 10th Company, weapon number 3. Other markings have been added that are very odd. Could you please post a clear close up photo of the markings on the right side of the chamber (receiver). You do not need to start another thread to respond to this request, just use the "ADD REPLY" button rather than the "Quick Reply" box and you will have the controls to include a photo. Thank you.

I think it was the East Germans? that tattooed those marks in. Proof house marks not unlike the british type we often see.
Sorry, was best guessing off of memory! I saw similar marks posted somewhere. Thanks for setting me straight.

East-Germany had nothing to do with this one.

Has the gun been deactivated in the UK?

The certificate is from France, Banc d'epreuve de St etienne, dated11/6/08, Ivan

If the gun was deactivated in France, this would explain why the original French proof marks on receiver and barrel were peened out. So this gun would have found it's way onto the French market somewhere after WW1.

Thanks for you vigilance in keeping UK members advised on the technicalities of UK gun law. Better safe than sorry...

Perhaps the gun is still in France? and has a UK owner... I am not sure if that is possible, but if it is, that would soften the sting of UK law... provided the gun stays in France.

Crowned AN marking means "Arme NeutralisÃ?Â©e" in french (deactived gun) and ivanlaud is right, it's the official mark of the Banc d'Epreuve de Saint Etienne.
