My hobby is shooting the long barreld Lugers. In a regular 8" Artillery one can shoot 300 yards with great accuracy. Due to the limitations of the 9MM pistol round the effective range would be a bit better with a 16" barrel but I suspect not that much better. German tests determined that the 9mm would go to 800 meters and still penetrate a helmet. Actually expecting to HIT a helmet at that range is another thing. The hold over would be tremendous. Looks like some metal on the face of the toggle knobs was lost, as the radius is almost gone :

I at first thought it was a repro navy rear toggle, because they have the flat sides like that. But given the pitting that is still visible after refinish, I think it may be an original toggle that was heavily pitted and the knobs were faced back and re-checkered like the repros. I wish there was a clear side-on shot of the sight that would help identify it a little better, but I get the impression that it is an original sight.

Considering the work required, probably not a bad price.
