Does the fluted pin have the "V' cuts on the forward end? Could you help me with which P-08's used fluted and which used unfluted? Thanks again for your patience and knowledge. Lawrence

Hi,
The cuts are indeed on the front end of the firing pin. |

According to John Walter in his book 'The Luger Book' he says that the firing pins were changed from non-fluted to fluted in 1934. No other information was provided.

Is there any danger in harming yourself or your weapon if the wrong firing pin is in the wrong era gun? Thanks. Lawrence

Hi,
Not really. If you have a firing pin that's numbered to the pistol it is a good idea to swap it for a 'shooter pin' to avoid breaking it. I have a 1906 Dutch, which still has the correct firing pin. When I shoot it (not too often) I use a fluted replacement pin. You do need to check whether the replacement firing pin will work with the sear bar. I once had the pistol go full-auto after installing the wrong replacement pin. Interesting experience. |

Thanks Frank. It's a self-portrait.
