I have a question on the 1936 S/42 Lugers. Were the grips numbered or left unmarked on the inside. Thanks, Brent B.

JD: Thanks for the reply. Would anyone have any thoughts on a 36 if they were not numbered? Everything else on the gun is just as it should be. Thanks. Brent B.

Brent,
I also have a 1936 S/42, military all matching luger. Grips have a letter or two stamped inside, but no proofs or matching serial#'s. The grips are walnut, perfect fit, and appear to be original to the pistol. Seems like I covered this ground before to find out that not all 1936's had serialized grips, maybe someone else can expand on this. |

RP: Appreciate the reply. I've had a couple private messages that said there some had them and some don't. All the replies have been a big help.
Thanks, Brent B. |

Hi Brent, most of the 1936, S/42 Lugers I have seen have had NO serial numbers on the inside of the grips. The Germans started numbering the grips again at the beginning of the 1937 production.

Brent,
My 1936 S/42 has unmarked grips. Each other piece is correctly marked. I sent the grips to Hugh to be recheckered as they didn't quite match the quality of the gun. He didn't mention them being repro or anything unususal and as always did a beautiful job. Jack Hiles Mesa, AZ
