Default Unmarked holster

Hi,

I've just bought a 1918 DWM 4" military Luger. It came with this holster. It has no markings, is in poor condition and the loading tool is missing.

As I know nothing about holsters, could some of the experts in this area give me some info as to what it is I have here. I've no intention of selling it, I'm just interested in it's background.

Thanks.

Since your holster has no stampings on it, it is very likely a commercial or civilian holster. It appears to be genuine of the period and not a reproduction.

I've just had a closer look using the bright light from my mini maglite. There appears to be some markings on the inner flap. i can make out what looks like

SCHERELL &Co.

And below it it shows

NORD----SEN ( ---- are not visible )

Does this mean anything to anyone?

WW1 military holsters were frequently marked on the inside flap. Normally the manufacturers name, town/city of business and a date I don"t know what yours would be but there were many manufacturers.

I'd bet it was Nordhausen, but I bet on lots of stuff.

Brit, Your holster is of the WW1 era military pattern made by Scherrell & CO. of Nordhausen, near Halle, so Tom A. is right again. I would bet the there is a 191? date below that marking. If too faint, just apply a bit of spit with your finger. It appears to have been originally made of brown leather and dyed black. The discoloration on the front, appears to have been caused by glue from an ID label. I would bet that the forum "luger holster repair" guy could get this looking good again. Tom

Brit, All things considered, really not a bad holster for being 90+ years old.
