Default Re: Muzzle Velocity

Regular 9mm ammo will practically shoot fairly identical velocities when for example comparing 4", 6" and 8" barrels to one another. Long time ago a read that a 9mm ammo will obtain something like 90% of muzzle velocity in the first 2" travel.

Noticeable differencies can be had if intentionally slow burning rate powder is used. Slow powders have to be used if one wants to shoot heavy bullets and get highest possible velocities. In such case 8" barrel will be superior out of these three.
