Unit Marking Identification
I have a friend whose Father left him a 1918 DWM with a 1920 Reichswehr property stamp, did not know anything about Lugers, had not even thought about it until a recent conversation. I showed him this marvelous forum site and he is now Luger hooked. He will be joining the forum this weekend when his computer is fixed and posting pic's of his "new baby", and learning. In the mean time, I have a pic of a unit marking and I am curious enough not to wait for him. To be truthful, my baby is being worked on by Thor, Fritzer will not let me play with his, I miss not having my Luger to talk about, learn about, and shoot and will Buschman's as a substitute. I have seen several posts on unit marking's and hope some of you can shed some light on this.
Here is a pic of the unit marking located on the front strap. (I could not remember how to put he actual pic, so here is the site link) |

Don,
I've seen some pictures, and yes it has the pivot pin visable on the sear safety. Tiberius must be off for the night. Hope that helps. Fritz. |

"P.D." apparently stands for Polizei Direktion, an upper level in the police hierarchy. See this link for more authoritative information: http://www.gunboards.com/luger/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1844
I am developing a database of police unit marks and would appreciate knowing the serial number and suffix of this gun. Also, if there are any other apparent police marks. Thanks very much.

Don,
Curosity has got the best of me. Tiberius will be out a couple of days, here are some pictures he had emailed me. I haven't seen anything in the new members forum yet. Maybe one of the photo magicians can get a clearer view of the suffix - I haven't seen the luger in person, and can't make it out from the picture. Is there a particular type of other police marking we should be looking for? Regards, Fritz. |

Sorry Fritzer... even this photo magician couldn't clear up the suffix letter from that photo... it is just too far out of focus...
If I had to GUESS, I would think it might be a lower case 's' but that is only a guess..

I've been able to coax the following out of the suffix photo. Maybe Ed Tinker could compare it with his gallery of suffix photos. <a href="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/showframe_mediumenhance.jpg" target="_fullview"><img src="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/showframe_mediumenhance.jpg" width="400" alt="Click for fullsize image" /></a>

Can someone send me higher resolutions of the picture, or new pictures of the suffix?
