Default Luger Frames different shapes?

Ok im currious about the frame of the luger specifically the grip, Is it just me or does it look like lugers grips come in different shapes and sizes? some look bigger or wider then some others look sleeker or shaped different, does this just depend on the year or the manufacture of the lugers to why their grips look different? or am i just seeing things. Crap i dont even know if i worded that right... >_<

Default Grips

Brandon, You are correct that the grips are different shapes.

German manufactured Lugers and early Swiss have the wider grips and later Swiss, 1929 I believe, are sleeker, as you state. Here's links to Simpson's to show the difference.

Default

DWM grips prior to 1914,when the stock lug was added to the standard PO8, do not cover that rear portion of the frame and have finer checkering. WW1 Erfurt & Weimar era Simson grips (made on the same machinery) are thicker than DWM grips. Other than inside markings, the Mauser wood grips are about the same as the post 1913 DWMs (made on the same machinery). TH
