I have a Erfurt 1916 that has a serial # 4 on all the parts except the side plate which is plank. I got this from my father and that is the way he got it, should I try and find a side plate with 4 on it or is it a usless search and the wrong thing to do. Thanks Jeff

welcome to the forum Jeff. Lots of folks look for those type of parts.... Other folks think that you are trying to "boost" a piece.
A blank sideplate is a lot better than a renumbered or wrong number in my opinion. Also, you can "eventually" / 'possibly" find a #4, but to look right, it'd have to be an Erfurt one, etc. I moved your posting to here, as I don't think you are trying to sell the erfurt, but if you are, please include a price, as that is required there. ed
