Date Made
I have a Stoeger, Post WWII, stainless Luger in 9 mm. Serial number is S201X (X is actually a number). It is not dated anywhere. Can anyone tell me where/how to find out the date it was made.
Many thanks in advance.

Well, no comments yet. I must conclude that either no one knows or they who do, have not read my request yet.
I have a Mitchell stainless Luger dated 1992. It is just like my Stoeger. Was the Stoeger made before or after the Mitchells?

Rick is essentially correct. The brand name Mitchell came first, then Stoeger, and finally AIMCO... AIMCO was the actual manufacturer of all of the guns... AIMCO finally changed its name ot Orimar... and we haven't heard much about them recently... I hope they are still in business... they are/were located in Houston, TX. There is an email link on our Links and Resources webpage, but I have not checked it out lately to see if it is still valid. If someone would like to do that and report back, I would be grateful.
There are many photos of Stainless Lugers contributed by members in the Members Gallery... just do a search on "stainless" over in the gallery. The link is on the left of the Home Page: http://www.lugerforum.com

Mitchell date
I have a Mitchell with a 1993 chamber date.
I have heard rumours to the effect that the Stoeger magazine was changed to accomodate the 40 S&W but the chambering never went into production. I know that Mitchell at one time had a tool room model chambered for 10 mm. That would have been a number!! Mitchell had plans to market the 40 S&W chambering. I don't know why marketing went from Mitchell to Stoeger but wished it had stayed with Mitchell as Stoeger put some truly ugly engraving on the pistol. |
